Inspiring Hope and Vision
| If the poor are to escape poverty, they must take initiative themselves. Sustainable change that is not dependant on outsiders can only be achieved when the poor themselves are inspired and empowered to action. Hope and vision begins with a personal relationship to God through faith in Christ. God's Word teaches us that we have been made in the image of God to be stewards of resources, not victims to circumstance. |
Helping communities analyze their needs and identify local solutions
| Plans made by professionals and delivered to the poor in the form of "projects" often create dependencies and seldom lead to sustainable development. HCDI has trained communitiy workers in 47 villages and slums thoughout the country who are helping the poor to come up with their own solutions. The community learns to analyze their own problems, identify resources, make plans, and act. |
Mobilizing people to work together for a better future
| Communities inspired by hope with a plan for a better future need to organize and work together to execute their plans. HCDI workers help communities put systems and structures in place that facilitate cooperative action. As a result, people work together to prevent disease, build stronger families, improve agricultural production, develop small business and improve the quality of life generally. |

We cannot all live in these impoverished communities, or even visit them regularly, but dedicated and trained HCDI workers are already there.
